Dall'ultima risposta a questa domanda nel 2008, iTextSharp ha migliorato notevolmente la loro API. Se scarichi l'ultima versione della loro API da http://sourceforge.net/projects/itextsharp/ , puoi utilizzare il seguente frammento di codice per estrarre tutto il testo da un pdf in una stringa.

iTextSharp è la soluzione migliore. L'ho usato per creare uno spider per lucene.Net in modo che potesse eseguire la scansione dei PDF.

PDFClown potrebbe aiutare, ma non lo consiglierei per un'applicazione di grandi dimensioni o di uso intenso.
iText è la migliore libreria che conosco. Scritto originariamente in Java, esiste anche una porta .NET.

Dai un'occhiata alla libreria Docotic.Pdf . Non richiede di rendere aperto il codice sorgente della tua applicazione (come iTextSharp con licenza virale AGPL 3, per esempio).
