WHOIS strano di Twitter.com: cosa sta succedendo?

Ho provato a cercarlo su Google, ma non riesco ad arrivare da nessuna parte vicino a una risposta, e questo è l'unico posto in cui posso immaginare di averne una.

Se faccio whois twitter.com, ottengo una risposta davvero strana. Se è pubblicità, allora è il posto più strano che abbia mai visto per un annuncio.

Questo è solo un trucco usato da alcuni registranti sfruttando il fatto che whois ha come impostazione predefinita sia voci host che di dominio. Le corrispondenze extra provengono da voci host (nameserver). Puoi chiedere esplicitamente una voce di dominio per evitare le corrispondenze dell'host:

$ whois domain twitter.com

MODIFICA: A proposito, puoi anche forzare una corrispondenza parziale usando tre punti (...) alla fine della query. Questo confonde il client whois di Linux perché non è in grado di determinare automaticamente il dominio, quindi devi dirlo esplicitamente quale server whois usare:

$ whois -h whois.verisign-grs.com "nameserver twitter.com..."
