Debian 6 su HP proliant (2 CPU) con raid (2 * 1.5T RAID1 + 2 * 2T RAID1 si sono uniti a RAID0 per fare 3.5T) eseguendo principalmente nfs & imapd (più samba per windows share e www locale per l'anteprima delle pagine Web); con client desktop ubuntu locale che monta $ HOME, laptop che accedono a file imap e dispari (es. video) tramite nfs / smb; scatole collegate 100baseT o wifi tramite router / switch di casa

Il programma di installazione ha funzionato per mesi ma tende ad andare in modo intermittente molto lento (esperienza utente sul desktop che installa $ HOME dal server o laptop che riproduce video) e ora costantemente così male che ho dovuto approfondire per cercare di trovare ciò che non va (! )
Il server sembra OK a basso carico, ad es. Client (laptop) (con $ HOME sul disco locale) che si connette a imapd del server e nfs che monta RAID per accedere a 1 file: la parte superiore mostra il carico ~ 0,1 o meno, 0 aspetta
ma quando il client (desktop) monta $ HOME e avvia la sessione KDE dell'utente (tutti i server che accedono), la parte superiore mostra ad es

Quindi penso di avere qualche idea di quale sia il problema, ma non sono un esperto di sysadmin di Linux dal tratto più remoto dell'immaginazione e apprezzerei davvero qualche indizio che controlla qui con la mia diagnosi e cosa devo fare:
- ovviamente devo procurarmi un altro disco per SDC. (Immagino che potrei acquistare un'unità più grande se il prezzo è giusto: sto pensando che un giorno avrò bisogno di aumentare le dimensioni dell'array e che sarebbe un disco in meno da sostituire con uno più grande)
- quindi utilizzare mdadm per eseguire il failover dell'sdc esistente, rimuoverlo e adattarlo alla nuova unità
- fdisk la nuova unità con la stessa partizione delle dimensioni per l'array di quella precedente
- utilizzare mdadm per aggiungere la nuova unità nell'array
